The way the boys egg eachother on.. is slightly insane. I mean Kendall for instance egging on kordell while simultaneously acting like Serena’s big brother. Then, being soooo shocked at her reactions.. I mean if this isn’t an insight to how women are labeled ‘crazy’ ….
It really feels like everybody is being sucked into Love Island this summer, so I just started to dive in too. I have to play catch up to the newest episodes, but loving this take and all the online conversations around the women supporting each other! And the music is ridiculously good lol so excited you shared that playlist because that will be my new summer playlist for the season!
Disclaimers: I don’t watch the show and I’ve been married for 13 years, so not exactly your target audience. BUT this was interesting to me because, as you mentioned, Love Island seems to be a microcosm for modern dating. It’s very hard to love your choice when the choices keep flying at you. It’s very easy to question your own decisions when other options are flying at you. I find this to be true in my life too; I have a free day and I am almost overwhelmed by all the things I could do. It causes me to overload without logically thinking about what I actually want not just what *sounds* best. Again, see my disclaimers but I feel like I need to watch a little now 😂
right?!?!? the music budget is out of control, these are some huge hits setting very big moods.
the breakfast plate scene goes down in the books. kordell then swiping his finger through the avocado on his chest and eating it, gotta give it to him for his sense of humor.
my sister overheard billie eilish being played in one scene and was appalled. a) at the level of drama it created over relatively nothing and b) because of their being able to afford it
What I think is truly wild and also telling of today’s dating scene is how willing the contestants/youths are to say they love each other or are falling for each other but struggle with asking their partner if they want to be boyfriend and girlfriend. Like, wut? You’d think throwing the L word around would be far more difficult than The Talk but I guess you can catch feels now but not commitment. (I say this as a divorced 40-something who has decided their perfect relationship is a 3-week fling but STILL. I don’t go around telling men I’m casually dating that I love them.) Anyway, love this show!
Ines this is so interesting and spot on. The idea of being someone’s boyfriend / girlfriend has taken on a new meaning, somehow feeling equivalent to engagement?? I can’t imagine having to go through multiple iterations of defining your relationship before getting to something that felt so simple to me. And I agree, it feels sad that their feelings come before the commitment versus the other way around. It is an equation for a world of hurt!!!
Thank you for this angle, I enjoy the way my brain immediately ran off with it :)
This sounds very similar to Perfect Match, my current guilty pleasure show on Netflix. The excuse the guys who are in solid relationships use to see other people give: because they ‘haven’t been tested yet’ gets me worked up every timeeee🙄🙄
oh gosh i may need to be watching perfect match next then..... i understand there needs to be some veil over these shows to maintain their semblance of being for love, but i would applaud anyone who just admits, "she's hot, i don't care about you enough yet, i'm about to go make out despite how it makes me look" - now THAT would be appointment tv
Justice for Serena!!!! BOOO to
Kendall

I do not deserve you !!!!! So interesting to think about it all outside of the realm of dating !!!
The playlist is actually insane. Where are they getting this music budget????
Also, as someone who’s been with the same person for 10 years and been married for almost 3 years, I get anxiety just hearing about the dating scene.
There have been episodes this season where I’ve yelped at the audacity. Still nothing better than Serena flipping over that breakfast plate 🤌🏽

And the turnaround time on those songs! Please Please Please & Von Dutch pretty much right after they released?? Gotta give it to em
And Kordell’s sense of humor is one of those things that makes it so I always have some sort of a soft spot for him 🥲

YES we had the same thought watching
