How about all the women who are overworked and underpaid in those countries where most of this stuff is made.

this was so good, really captures how dizzying it all feels! I got a text from my friend late that night after being bombarded by ads all day. it just said "HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY. YOU ARE A WOMAN" it made me laugh and kind of sums up how insincere all these ads feel. Thank you for the mention <3

that text hits the nail right on the head!!! it's like this is your reality, take it or leave it, makes no difference to us!!!

TYSM for reading :)

You hit the nail on the head. Personally I feel less irked when these offers come from female-owned / run businesses but to all others: nope.

And if they’re from what we consider a corporate (ie - have to report on diversity figures) I always instantly want to know what their own gender pay gap is. They should redirect that money to getting their own house in order!

EMMA I just read your piece on IWD - TY to the substack algo for connecting us in our ranting <3 I loved your take from a marketing POV and how you dove into the companies behind the scenes. I didn't even know there was a separate campaign running from the UN one... a little mind blowing but also so in line with the "corporate buyout of International Women’s Day" as you wrote. Is it just me, or does the screen grab of that website look like it's for a religious cult or something?! What a world we live in...

I couldn't care less about IWD either. I also don't base my shopping decisions based on gender or what the designer looks like, for that matter.
