Am I the eager beaver immediately commenting on your post; why yes I am!! I am so intrigued by your piece with Lindsay because it's something I've thought about a lot on SS. Everyone's budget varies wildly and I would be curious HOW people set their clothing budget. I've had the same monthly budget since I got married (when I was 22 🙈) and it wasn't until a few years ago that I actually said "wait, I think I can manage slightly more." I'm talking $200/month which is probably a lot for some people BUT seemingly very little for others!

I think about this a lot too… I’ve even considered putting “$500 monthly budget” in my substack description so people understand what they’re in for. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on that…. $500 is higher than it’s been in the past, but I’m in a “replenishment” year and had squirreled away money for this exact purpose when I did rule of five last year.

Wait, I love this!!! Can I copy you?! Wouldn’t it be so empowering to know “oh that person spends more than me but only by a little (or whatever) so they are a good follow for me.”

I love this concept!!!! Some newsletters, even if I love the ideas, I cannot ever click the links because I just know everything will be out of my budget. It’s nice to find a follow where I know we are shopping similarly or have similar aspirational/wishlist items. But also people who are adding new pieces at a similar cadence is always helpful too!

Also Emily I love the replenishment year. I felt like I did that last year a little, buying nicer higher quality items than I normally would. Sometimes that’s necessary and I like the idea that the budget can ebb and flow with your current situation! And you TOTALLY earned that with your rule of 5 🙃

YES!! I actually choose not to click any link because I don’t want to find myself wanting something that I would have to scrimp and save for. I’d rather just know it’s not for me.

Let’s start a movement, Kelly! I’m doing it now. In the Target parking lot. Hahahahaha

I love your articles because I work in an office and have to dress up every day of the week. Most folks on Substack seem to work in much more casual environments, so I don’t tend to see looks that will work for my week. I also love when you share your thoughts from the night before and then in the morning when you’re getting dressed. I so relate to it when something you thought would work just doesn’t do it for you as you’re getting ready in the morning 😂Thanks for sharing!

I love "Red Shoe Day"! I also adore your dress + cardi (not too colourful for me!) and your sheer-sleeved blouse is STUNNING.

My "spend" budget is $200 dumped in my discretionary fund bank account every paycheque. As long as I have money in there, I can buy whatever I want. My recent clothing sale plumped that up nicely, and I want to ultimately have my clothing shopping $ all come from that.
