Also, I watched SPRINT on Netflix, which I highly recommend, and it has brought the sprinters to life in a fresh way too!

Every Netflix sports docuseries has been incredible IMO. The Tour de France series? I watched live because of Netflix. Break Point? Had me watching tennis immediately. They’re really doing such great things for sports that sometimes fly under the radar for the masses (for Americans at least).

Yes! Exactly this!! It humanizes the sports which increases my investment in them. Watching Carlos Alcarez lose this Olympics was more devastating knowing about where the sport of tennis has been recently!

ALL OF THIS! Every year I complain that the Olympics become increasingly commercialized and “not the same”, and that may be for the entity, but it’s the athletes that take my breath away every year. I AM IN AWE! And so are the famously cynical Parisians!

My mom said the same thing! Very commercialized. We talked about how, this year, it feels like the athletes are at least benefitting as the faces of the ads we are seeing. But I think we are among the masses who focus in on the personal stories and the obstacles all of these athletes have overcome. Hopefully that is always at the forefront!

Love this piece! I too love watching the families watch their athletes strive!
