i think it’s brave: corporate office outfit diary
more real outfits! more selfies with toilets in the background!
Last week’s post got more views than anything I’ve ever written. Plus there are more than 75 new people here because of it! While it’s a little sad that my personal essays are less “successful” on this app/site than my outfits, that conversation is for another day. What was exciting was how enthusiastic people were about seeing outfits that are created for and worn to the office. It feels like maybe we have struck a chord. So, here is another week of BBG bathroom selfies :)
To clarify, I work at a business casual office in New York City, not business formal!
Monday outfit plan and execution:
Sunday game plan: It’s late and I want to get to HotD so I quickly pull an outfit I know I love. It’s going to be 69 degrees when I commute tomorrow, so I can finally wear this blue silk button down without worrying about sweating through it.
Monday morning: the outfit on the hanger is tried and true so I’m not worried about hating it. White trousers, blue silky top, black belt and snakeskin heels I scored off the TRR. These shoes are not commuter friendly, the backs fall down a ton, so I pop a pair of flip flops in my bag and am on the road so early that we can stop for a tea before the train.
Anything missing?! Nope, she’s a happy camper this morning.
Tuesday:
Zero game plan today as I fell asleep watching ♥️the USA men’s gymnastics team♥️. While I brush my teeth I think of options and land on a photo I saved of the Moosgaard twins: white pants, white button down, black sandals. I copy it almost exactly but pick black slingbacks (also a TRR find) and add a few gold necklaces for intentionality because I can’t wear the sunnies and bag like she does in the photo.
Anything missing? A bigger, stiffer white button down and also ecru pants vs. stark white. Can’t win ‘em all though!
Hump Day 🐫
Tuesday game plan: I lay out a new white linen dress my mom picked up for me (one of the many perks of living with her!!!) at J.Crew (call me). I put out 3 shoe options: nude slingbacks, red loafers and yellow heeled sandals. We will see what my little heart desires in the AM 😴
Wednesday morning: I hit snooze twice! Oops! High of 88 with a chance of rain today, so what I laid out works. I put on my dress and try on both the red loafer and the nude slingback, but the red feels too patriotic with my navy sweater (which I need at the office). The nude ones I actually love, what a nice surprise for this gross muggy morning.
Anything missing? Nope.
Thursday:
Wednesday game plan: I learn it’s going to be 95 degrees and sunny tomorrow and immediately know it’s this dress’ chance to shine (she got sidelined last week because of the rain if you remember).
Thursday morning: I wake up and realize my hair is gross, and therefore I must slick it back into a bun. That takes most of my getting ready time and then I grab my new orange heels I got on the Larroude 50% off sale that I am in love with. This outfit makes me smile. It’s definitely a little more out there in terms of color and print but it’s almost Friday! Why not!
Anything missing? Static guard
FriYAY!
It’s my besties wedding weekend!!!!! We are working a half day from home and then heading to upstate New York for the festivities. This is my WFH fit - I thought about changing to something cuter or cleaning up my room which is a storm from packing but that isn’t the purpose here, is it?
Next week maybe I’ll include some pics from the weekend? My rehearsal dinner dress is probably going to be this fish dress. And my bridesmaids pick was another secondhand purchase I will actually wear for life 💛
Thoughts of the week:
Designer shoes are expensive and get ruined in the city, so getting them off of TRR makes me feel better when they get a bit of wear and tear. This week featured a used pair of Jimmy Choos, a used pair from Aeyde, and a used pair from Prada, all of which I love and have collected at deep discounts over time. And I can wear them out for lunch without stress!
On that note, I used to HATE pointy toed shoes even though my mom always told me they look better. I now agree with her wholeheartedly. They elevate everything and make me feel so chic!!!
Button downs make even the most funky pants or skirt work appropriate. It’s a good secret weapon for pairing “normal” clothes with office ones.
On a personal note: Is it silly I did this a second time? My outfits were good last week but they are not always so what happens then? Should I stick to my essays? Why did people relate to this? On and on and on I doubt!!!
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Let me know if I should keep this up and I’ll let you know eventually if I feel like I can’t lol BYE!
to see someone dressing for real life with their own clothing (not gifted/sponsored) is like catnip to me. please continue as possible!
I was one of the 75 lured by the outfits! I imagine everyone else hit subscribe after browsing the rest of your work as well 🤗
